Obituary of John Alexander Buchinski

BUCHINSKI, John Alexander- It is with deep sorrow and sadness the family announces the passing of our dear beloved husband, father and grandfather, John Buchinski, late of Regina and formerly of Cudworth,SK on Sunday, March 13, 2005 at the age of 80 years. Surviving are his loving wife, Stella of 50 years.; dear daughter Audrey and son-in-law Glen Rumpel (Balgonie), and two grandchildren, grandson, Mark and granddaughter, Lisa, which were the joy of his life. Also survived by one brother, Frank (Elsie) Buchinski of Surrey, BC; two sisters, Ann (Roy) Greva, Saskatoon, SK, Josie (Doug) Currie, U.S.A.; as well as many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. John was predeceased by his mother and father, Paul and Mary Buchinski. John was born in Cudworth, SK on June 27, 1924. He attended school in Cudworth and then completed his teaching degree in Saskatoon Normal School (Teachers College) in 1946. Johns career as a teacher spanned 35 years, starting in a one room school in rural Saskatchewan Cudworth district for 18 years. He married his wife, Stella (nee Mateychuk) in 1954. They resided in Bremen, SK where he taught school. In 1956 they were blessed with their daughter, Audrey (which was their pride and joy). Then in 1964 they moved to Regina and John took a teaching position with the Regina Catholic Separate School Board (Special Ed). He taught for another 17 years then retired in 1981. John will be remembered for his untiring efforts in the field of education. He enjoyed his work and touched the lives of many of his students. He was active for many years in several local organizations. John was a longtime member of St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church and Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and held a position of Grand Knight. John held various positions on the St. Basils Church Executive and the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. He will be remembered for his voluntary work in St. Basils Parish Centre. He was well known for his kind, gentle and generous nature and his love for family and friends. In his life family always played an important role. Time with loved ones was precious to him. He always enjoyed and took time for socializing and attending family or friends gatherings. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will always be loved, missed and remembered. The family would like to thank his many caregivers, Dr. P. Harris, doctors, nurses and the staff at the Pasqua and General Hospitals for the compassionate care they gave him. Also many thanks to all those that have given us great support during this time. Prayers will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street, Regina with Rt. Rev. Msgr. R. Luzney, Celebrant. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. In memory of John, donations may be made to St. Basils Church Memorial Fund, mass cards or to a charity of your choice.
