Obituary of Doris Maude Luchuck

DORIS MAUDE LUCHUCK (nee Green) Mom began her journey to be reunited with my Dad on April 18, 2005. Mom was born in High Bluff, Manitoba on August 20, 1914. She was the first child of Alec and Maisie Green. Her brother Ron arrived a few years later. The family moved to Winnipeg where mom went to school, worked at the T. Eaton Company department store and made lifelong friends. Her parents home was always filled with friends and relatives and Mom inherited the Green familys gift for conversation, entertaining and making people feel comfortable. When World War II began Mom joined the Navy. She was so proud to be a WREN and to wear the naval uniform. She worked in the Post Office, both on the east coast in Cornwallis and in Esquimalt on the west coast. More friendships resulted, with whom Mom kept in touch, by letter, almost to the end of her life. I remember her sending out close to 200 Christmas cards one year because I got to lick the stamps. She attended a number of WREN reunions over the years. Her association with the WRENS had another benefit. She met my Dad, the love of her life, on a train. She was traveling to Wolseley, SK to visit a friend she met in the Navy and Dad was going to Banff to work in the Banff Springs Hotel. They were married in Winnipeg in June 1948 and moved to Pine Falls, Manitoba where Dad was employed with the Abitibi Paper Company. I arrived in 1952. We spent the summers travelling to Regina to visit moms relatives, BC to visit Grandma and Grandpa Green, California to visit Uncle Ron and Aunty Phyl Green and England to visit more relatives. After Dad passed away in 1976, Mom remained in Pine Falls for a couple of years, then moved to Winnipeg where she renewed her friendships. She and I travelled as much as we could, with trips to Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and New Zealand being most memorable as Mom was able to meet cousins who she had corresponded with but never met and friends that she hadnt seen since before the war. Failing mobility caused Mom to leave her friends and move to Regina about 12 years ago. She was immediately welcomed as family by cousins Carol and Wayne Eaton, Bobbie and Paddy Rowbotham and friends Lynn and Sheldon Clarke and their families. Thank you to our wonderful family! Mom moved to Parkside Extendicare three years ago. Her days there were happy as she was well taken care of by the very kind and caring staff of North Wing. She especially loved her visits with Ron Jones and Meggie and then Abbe. Friends from Pine Falls, Winnipeg, Calgary and Ontario always stopped for a visit when passing through Regina. Mom is survived by her daughter Sue (me); her three grand-dogs Taffin, Ceilidh, Logan; sisters-in-law, Dolly Kennedy, Joyce Luchuck, Betty Luchuk, Inez Luchuck, Ina Luchuck and Phyl Green; brother-in-law Reg Luchuck; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and very dear friends. If you wish, a donation in Moms name could be made to the Arthritis Society, the Regina Humane Society or the Resident Council at Parkside Extendicare. Have a safe trip Mom. Give Dad a hug for me and Ill give the girls a pat. Condolences to the family may be emailed to reception@speersfuneralchapel.com
