MAGLIS - John (Yianni) Maglis, beloved and very devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the age of 68. Predeceased by his parents Demitri and Katerina, brother Apostolos, sister Polyxene, and his infant grandson Nicolas McKimm, he is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Maria, his three daughters and five grandchildren: Katina (Steve) McKimm and their children, Matthew and Joshua; Nicolette (Demitri) Harbis and their sons, Yiannis and Taso; Demetrula (Ted) Yanko and their children, Ahlia and Lucas: his sisters; Angeliki Karapanos (Greece), Litsa (Demitri) Tsoulos (Guelph), Matina (Ilias) Margiolas (Greece) and Roula Magouliotis as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. John was born in 1936 in Paralia Astros, Greece and emigrated to Canada in 1953. He worked as a cook for many years at the LaSalle Hotel. In 1975 he opened his own successful restaurants, Rivers and The Golden Prairie. In 1987 he operated the Callie Curling Club food and banquet services where he enjoyed one of his many favorite sports until 1995. He then used his expertise to help his daughters operate the Souvlaki Shack until his retirement in 2000. Our dads retirement was all about his family. Papou (grandpa) attended all his grandchildrens sporting events, no matter what the distance, time between each of their games or weather conditions. He would stand on the sidelines and cheer proudly.
