Obituary of Anthony Valarian Stoppa

ANTHONY VALARIAN STOPPA Anthony, an officer, gentleman, hero, husband and father, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012. He was born on November 12, 1916 in Brandon MB yet his birthday was celebrated on November 11 as he told his daughter that they stopped the war to celebrate his birthday. Anthony was predeceased by his loving and beloved wife Ruth. Survived by his son Anthony John (Franoise) and their children; daughter Elisabeth Ann (daughter Alecia); and sister Mary Wilson. Anthony was raised and received his schooling in Brandon, Fenwood and Vancouver. He joined the Regina Rifles in 1938, went overseas in December 1939 with the Saskatoon Light Infantry and served for six years. Upon coming home, he stayed in permanent Army in P.P.C.L.I. until 1968. Anthony served in many parts of the world during his army years including Vietnam from 1954 55. He was hired by the Provincial Public Service Commission as Staffing Officer in 1968 retiring in November 1981. He spent many years working with cadets, he believed in youth? and the abilities they possessed.
