Obituary of Catherine Emily Margaret Irvine
IRVINE - Margaret Irvine, born to Mr. and Mrs. David Bannatyne at Estevan, died in Regina on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the age of eighty-one. After schooling at Estevan she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from the University of Manitoba in Social Services. Following graduation Margaret held a number of positions: Group Worker at the Winnipeg Y.W.C.A.; Group Worker with the Association of Girls Clubs, Edinburgh, Scotland; Program Director of the Northampton Y.W.C.A., Northampton, England; Executive Director, Saskatoon Y.W.C.A; and Teacher at Estevan Collegiate Institute. Soon after marriage to Ross Irvine in 1956 they moved to Oxbow where they operated the local pharmacy and where Margaret became involved in community activities. She served on the vestry of All Saints Anglican Church, was a member of the A.C.W. and of a group of weavers, was secretary of the Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and worked with handicapped children at the Glenn McGuire School. She was an officer at large with the Saskatchewan Division of the Red Cross Society and was elected to the University of Saskatchewan Senate for a three year term. Her proudest accomplishment was the parenting of her two fine sons. Retiring to Regina, Margaret joined the Altar Guild at All Saints Church, the Weavers Guild and her bridge clubs. Sadly, declining health limited her time with them. Margarets sister Josephine Johnson and brothers David and Creighton (Sandy) Bannatyne predeceased her. Left with many good memories are her husband Ross, sons Andrew and his wife Joan (nee Ellman) and their children Katherine and David; Thomson and his wife Sharon Pratchler, sister Iris Coghill as well as nephew and nieces Iain Bannatyne, Sandra Miller, Karen DeBoeck, Doreene Menz and Janet Valair who have all been attentive during Margarets illness. Funeral Service will be conducted by the Reverends James Buenting and Dunstan Pasterfield at All Saints Anglican Church, 142 Massey Road on Friday, July 15, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow the next day at Estevan City Cemetery. The family gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care given by Doctors D. K. MacRae and M. W. Montbriand, Rev. J. Buenting and the many workers from Palliative Care and those at the William Booth Grace Hospice where Margaret spent her last days.
