Obituary of Conrad Fredrick Kornberger

KORNBERGER, Conrad - It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Conrad F. Kornberger on Monday, August 22, 2005. After courageously battling numerous health issues for many years, he is now at rest. Connie was born in Masefield, SK on November 5, 1928 and was one of eight children - three sisters and four brothers. He attended Holy Rosary and St. Josephs Schools in Regina and Norwegian Grove in St. James, SK. His parents died when he was very young. He was four when his mother died and fourteen when his dad died. At the age of fourteen, he went to live in the Embry Home, this being an orphanage. He started working at the age of sixteen at various jobs - one being the Regina Exhibition which he loved and worked there until 2003. In 1947, he started at the Leader-Post - then on Hamilton Street in the Mailing Room. In 1949 he joined the Army and served for four years. On January 15, 1952, while at a friends house, he met Leona Muchowski after a "long courtship of five weeks, on February 23, 1952 they were married. In 1954 he returned to work at the Leader Post where he has held positions in various departments - the Composing Room, back to the Mailing Room, District Manager, Street Sales and returned to the Mailing Room as foreman. Connie was involved in several Veterans organizations - mainly the Army, Navy and Air Force Vets where he served on the executive for several years and then became President of the Provincial Command until his passing. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Leona, his daughter Debbie (special friend, Brian) his son, Robin (Sheri) and his two grandchildren: Jenna and Jayden (Connies pride and joy). Connie is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Joyce Ritsco, Marge Schwab (Gabe), special niece (and his own private nurse) Rhonda Ritsco, his dear and very special friends, Ed Gillette and Art Schlechter and numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Celebration of Connies Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 1:30 pm. with Rev. Ken Koep presiding. Flowers most gratefully declined.
