Obituary of Reginald James James Briggs

REGINALD JAMES BRIGGS July 10, 1925 April 19, 2012 We are saddened to announce the peaceful death of our dear Dad, husband, Poppa, great Poppa, uncle and friend Reg Briggs. Dad died peacefully listening to Mark play the guitar on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Dad was a gentle, caring and incredibly strong individual with an amazing sense of right and wrong. He was a truly patient person with an always optimistic view of the world and a gentle word and smile for all. Dad was predeceased by the love of his life, our Mom (3 months ago) and was looking forward to seeing her again. Moms death was the longest separation they have had in their almost 60 years together and Dad said the first thing he was going to do when he saw her again was have a dance with Mom. Dad will be remembered by his sons Jamie and Mark; daughter Marsha and her husband Paul; grand-daughter Jocelyn; grandson Jean-Paul and his wife Karla; and his first much loved great grandbaby Payton. Left to morn is Dads sister-in-law Lillian Briggs; Moms sister Enid and her husband Pat; and his much loved nieces and nephews and all their families on both sides; as well as countless friends across the country. Dad received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in 1950. After years of gaining much experience he later formed his own firm in 1966. Dad was one of the first full service consulting companies in the province and played a strong role in developing the mechanical consulting industry. Dad has maintained his membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan and is a Life member of ASHRAE, as well as a charter member and Past President of the local chapter. In 2009 Dad was honoured by being bestowed with the designation of Fellow, from Engineers Canada, given for his exceptional contributions to the engineering profession in Canada. As well as his professional life Dad was very involved in the community. He is a past director of the YMCA and the Wascana Country Club. Dad was the Past President of the Regina Flying Club, The Assiniboia Club, Executive Club and the Wa Wa Shrine Motor Patrol. Dad is a member and Past Master of the Emulation Lodge, member of the Probus Club and The Sons of Scotland. He volunteered many hours to the Red Cross, United Way and Red Shield. Dad had a passion for golf, bridge, billiards, photography and wood working. His achievements and passions are many. There will be a Funeral to Celebrate Dads Life at St. Marys Anglican Church, 15th Ave. and Montague on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the Church Hall. We would like to thank everyone at St. Marys, especially Claude for all their help in creating the service and we would be delighted to have family and friends join in the celebration of Dads life.
