Obituary of Joseph Szala

SZALA, Joseph - His family is saddened to announce Josephs sudden, tragic death on Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Joe was born in Kuznicka, Poland on February 3, 1920. Following many years of forced labour during WWII, Joe came to Canada in 1950, eventually settling his family in Regina in 1952. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Marian; four brothers, Stanislaw, Andrzei, Valentine and Bartlomiej; and his four sisters, Mary, Josephine, Helen and Stanislawa. He leaves to mourn his wife, Emily; sons, Frank and John (Brenda); grandchildren, Frank Jr., Steven, Michael, Christopher, Jennifer (Todd), Shawn and Marissa; great-grandson, Ryelin; nephews Gary (Terry), Desmond (Sheila) and Henry (Alison); nieces Wanda (Pat), Jeanne (Evan) and Gloria (Hugh) and their families. On coming to Canada, Joe worked as a farm labourer, for many years with CN Rail and then at the Hotel Saskatchewan. Following his retirement, he continued to work on a voluntary basis at St. Anthonys Hall. He was a member of the Polish Combatants and has served as a member of Parish Council over the years. These pursuits gained him many friends and acquaintances who will recall his tireless work ethic and his devotion to the church, in general, and St. Anthonys Parish, in particular. Prayers will be held on Monday, September 5th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anthonys Parish, 2275 Atkinson Street. Funeral Service at St. Anthonys will be held on Tuesday, September 6th at 10:30 a.m. with Father M. Ogorek presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates your donation in Joes memory to Hospitals of Regina Foundation, 225 - 1874 Scarth Street, Regina S4P 4B3.
