Obituary of Joyce Marjorie Weicker

WEICKER, Marjorie Joyce passed away on September 6, 2005 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband Dr. Charles Merrill Weicker and three children: Gay Falkenberg (Kim) of Edmonton, Wendy Lucier (Virgil) of Sandpoint, Idaho and Ted Weicker (Rachelle) of West Vancouver; grandchildren: Ryan Falkenberg (Jaclyn); Kent Falkenberg, Sarah Weicker and Dylan Weicker; and great granddaughter Jessica Falkenberg. Predeceased by her parents Edwin I. Vickers and Betty Vickers (Fraser). Joyce was born in Regina. As her father was a Royal Bank Manager, she lived in Medicine Hat, Calgary, Moose Jaw and had good friends in each. She graduated from Moose Jaw Central Collegiate. During the war she was a civilian Radio-operator with RCAF Commonwealth Air Training Scheme at Portage, Manitoba, McLeod, Alberta and Pierce, Alberta. She was very active in community service and volunteer work - IODE - 1st regent of James Henderson Chapter, past Provincial Secretary; Heritage Regina - membership Chairperson during period of rapid growth; Girl Guides - on provincial board; St. Lukes Church - long time altar guild & reader; MacKenzie Art Gallery - convener of one of the two opening teas at the new Gallery, long time assisting in traveling arts; Government House Historical Society, as member chairman, winner of the Marj Ewart-Betty Westmorland Award; and the 1967 winner of City of Regina Volunteer Recognition Award. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, generosity, compassion, integrity, discipline, kindness, strength and dignity. The family would like to thank Dr. Vermeulen and staff for their care and kindness that kept Joyce with us for these extra years. Flowers are gratefully declined. Gifts in Joyces memory may be made to James Henderson Chapter IODE, Regina Rotary Club, Salvation Army or Regina Hospitals Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Lukes Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road on Monday, September 12, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Canon William Lourens officiating.
