Obituary of Fredrick Charles Sim
Sim - On November 1, 2005, Fredrick Charles Sim, late of Regina, passed away 25 days short of 85 years. Predeceased by his parents, George and Dorothea, and brothers Gordon, Harry, Arnold, Orval, Gerald, Glen, and Albert. Survived by his sister, Marie, wife of 61 years, Enid, children, Geoff, Neil (Janice), Bev McGuigan (David), Rod (Brenda), sisters-in-law Alice, Joan Bowley and Jose Osmond (Peter), grandchildren Benton (Julie), Warren (Julie), Kevin, Sandy (Angela), Ian (Briana), Richard, Maureen McGuigan (Rod Kovacs), Sean McGuigan (Kristin Hurtubise), and Melba Dalsin, great-grandchildren Christopher, Jacob, Logan, and Meghan, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Fred was born on the family homestead near Glenavon. He began his education in a one-room school at Stoney Brook and completed Grade Twelve in Tisdale. He enlisted in the RCAF and flew with an all-British RAF crew in a "Lancaster bomber. Throughout his life, Fred personified the motto "tenacity of his beloved Royal Air Force 166 Squadron. F/O Fred Sim received the DFC "in recognition of his record as an air bomber without regard for the danger encountered. While in the service of his country, he "stole LACW Enid Webber from a friend on April 1, 1943. They were married in 1944 in Enids hometown of Cardiff, Wales. In 1945 Fred brought his bride home to Tisdale where they started their family. In 1960 Fred moved his family to the Regina home that he loved. Fred had many fond memories of the places and people that he visited during his 30 years with Ford Motor Company. Since retirement in 1986, Fred has been an active and dedicated member and leader of First Presbyterian Church, St. Andrews Masonic Lodge, Rose Croix, Scottish Rite, Consistory, and the Shrine. He was proud to be honoured as a "Life Member of both the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan and Wa-Wa Temple. Fred was proud of his military service and he enjoyed attending aircrew reunions to reminisce with old and new friends. Fred delighted in helping others and raising funds for local charities. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and his association with the Fraser Pipe Band. He was a good son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, friend and neighbour. He will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends, including the neighbourhood children that Fred delighted in. Freds family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic and the Palliative Care Program.
