Obituary of Barbara Papadakos

BARBARA PAPADAKOS July 6, 1930 - May 30, 2013 Surrounded by her family, Barbara late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully and with tranquility on Thursday, May 30, 2013. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George Papadakos (1985); son John in infancy; parents, John and Eleni Nikolaou; four siblings in childhood and infancy; in-laws, Gregory and Stauvroula Papadakos; son-in-law Nick Georgoulis; brother-in-law George Kotsetas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her devoted, daughter Stauvroula Georgoulis (Ilias Tzavaras), grandchildren Konstantinos and Varvara Georgoulis; son Evanggelos Papadakos (Sofia Aristeidou), grandson Georgios Papadakos; sisters, Georgia (John) Selimos, Dina (Tom) Tzoumas, Toula (George) Diamond and Rita Kotsetas; numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. Barbara was born and raised in Kastri Kynourias Arkadia Greece. In 1960 she immigrated to Canada to marry her beloved George and embark on her new life in Regina. Soon after she began to work in the food and beverage industry and in the years that followed became a mother and raised her family with great love and care. She was a woman devout in her Greek Orthodox Faith and an active member of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Parish community. Etched in the hearts and the minds of those that had the pleasure to know her, she will be fondly remembered in numerous ways, for her wit, sense of humour, her emphasis on family values and tremendous work ethic, her kindness and optimism, her courage, determination and strength, her laugh, smile, for her voice, intellect and wisdom, her love of cooking, gardening, books, music, and of course, the volumes of expression through her eyes which were the window to her heart. Forever remembered and greatly missed. The family would sincerely like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for their outstanding care and support, to the nursing staff of Ward 3F at the Regina General Hospital, Dr. Kontsiotis, RQHR Home Care and Mrs. Lily DeGulle, Barbara’s private care giver. Prayer and Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK with Rev. Father Spyridon Vandoros officiating. Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park.
