Obituary of Joseph Philip Gattinger

JOSEPH “JOE” PHILIP GATTINGER October 6, 1925 - June 24, 2013 Joe passed away after a long illness which he endured with great courage and good humor. He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Anna Gattinger and his brothers and sisters. Joe is survived by his loving wife Olie; his four children, Anne-Marie Ursan (Jim), Mark Gattinger (Jane), Cathy Hauck (Ken) and Clare Gattinger. Joe is also survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Ursan, Adri-Anne Gamble (Mike), Brittney Omelchuk (Wayne), Meagan Gattinger, Kevin Hauck and Dan Hauck; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Anna and Blake; special in-laws John and Marlene Schreiner as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was a man of faith. He was an active member of the Little Flower Church in Regina. He participated in the Lay Ministry Program and was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Joe married Olympia “Olie” Dietrich in 1956 in Regina, where they raised their four children. He worked at Imperial Oil for a number of years before embarking on a professional career as a Physiotherapist until his retirement at 79 years of age. He was very conscientious at work and well-respected by his fellow co-workers and patients alike. Joe is respected and remembered by all as a man who valued family, faith and friends. He was a quiet and thoughtful man whose words were always ones of kindness or humor. He was a man of few words who led by example. He was a humble man whose extensive works of charity did not go unnoticed. He enjoyed gardening, road trips, nature, long walks, bike riding and prayer. He was an asset to the community and will be sorely missed. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Pasqua Hospital Unit 3A and Grace Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the Third Order of St. Francis, 3324 Patricia Avenue, Regina, SK, S4R 3Z9. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower Roman Catholic Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jose Periyilkatte presiding.
