Obituary of Dorothy Wright Moore

DOROTHY WRIGHT MOORE December 2, 1926 - June 26, 2013 Dorothy, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in Pioneer Village. Predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Evelyn Moore. She was an only child, and survived by her cousins, Dr. Peter Wright and Mrs. Margaret Hartley and families in the U.K. Dorothy was born in Manningham, Bradford County, England and her migration to Canada at age 12 is a very interesting story. She and her mother were on board S.S. Athenia on September 3, 1939, en route to Montreal when they were torpedoed on the first day of World War II. They were rescued by the Royal Navy and returned to the U.K. They did arrive in Canada in September of 1940, reunited as a family after this harrowing experience. Dorothy chose social work as her life’s career, graduating from the University of Manitoba and furthered her education by obtaining her Master’s degree at the University of Toronto. She was posted to several communities in Saskatchewan, retiring as supervisor of Social Services in the Weyburn and Estevan area. Dorothy enjoyed people, the arts, music, life in every aspect, travel and her beloved Roughriders. She always respected her parents and sang with her mother in the choir at Knox-Met which her father conducted. A Memorial Service will be held at Knox-Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Kitchen officiating. Interment of her cremated remains will be held at a later date. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
