Obituary of Ruth Venaas

Ruth Venaas, of Regina Lutheran Home passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the age of 99 years, 322 days. Born August 20, 1913 in Dubuc, SK, Ruth was predeceased by an infant son Murray; husband Norden; her parents, Willard and Birtie Sproule; sisters, Willma (Fred Rosler) and Bertha (Albert Lindwall); brother Lorne (Eileen); and nephews, Harvey Jackson and Kenny Lindwall. Ruth attended school in Dubuc and later worked at the telephone office. On December 6, 1933 she married Nordeen at Dubuc and they were blessed with five children: Murray (passing at early infancy), Bernice, Verna, Norma and Garry. Ruth is survived by children, Bernice of Calgary, Verna of Regina, Norma (Glen) of Okotoks and Garry (Pat) of Saskatoon; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth and Norden worked hard farming for many years on the Venaas homestead south of Dubuc enjoying many happy years gambling with all the good and bad crops associated with farming over the years while raising their family. Ruth gave special volunteer time to the Dubuc United Church Women, Dubuc Rebecca’s and Dubuc Citizens. Time spent with friends, family and especially grand-children, great and great-great-grandchildren were the most special moments of her day. Gardening and caring for her flowers was always a priority and on more than one occasion she cared for over 40 individual potted plants over the summer that required special rainwater. Knitting and crocheting ran a close second and we expect that most everyone here today have a fond memory for the gift of a dishcloth, scrubby, mittens, slippers, tea towel, blanket or some other handmade craft. (Chances are that if there had been a mistake made during the knitting it had been ripped out and corrected before it was given away). Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will follow immediately afterwards at Regina Lutheran Care Home at 1925 - 5th Avenue North, Regina. Interment will follow at Dubuc Cemetery later Saturday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, friends or family may wish to make a donation, in memoriam, to the Regina Lutheran Care Home, 1925 5th Avenue North, Regina, SK, S4R 7W1or Dubuc Cemetery Trust, Box 126, Dubuc, SK, S0A 0R0.
