Obituary of Arden Dale Giesbrecht

ARDEN DALE GIESBRECHT Arden passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, August 25, 2013 in the Palliative Care ward of the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, at the age of 50. He was born on May 3, 1963 in Swift Current, SK to Jake and Elsie Giesbrecht. Arden grew up in Swift Current, and he graduated from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 1981. He graduated from the University Of Saskatchewan College Of Commerce 1986, and continued his accounting interests to complete his CMA in 1992. Arden joined the Hill Companies in 1989 in which he was presently employed as a Controller and Corporate Secretary at Western Surety Company. He was a member of the Association for Financial Professionals, Canadian Insurance Accountants Associations, Eastview Rotary Club, Heritage Church Finance Committee and the Callie Curling Club. Arden met the love of his life, Lorrie, in 1985 and they were married in Saskatoon on July 9, 1988. They just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Arden’s greatest source of pride came when his children were born, Matthew in 1992, and Kaylee in 1994. His children were his life. Arden shared an interest in music, sports, movies and UFC fighting with Matthew and watched all of Kaylee’s dancing accomplishments with pride. In July of 2012, Matthew and Arden shared a father-son trip to Las Vegas to watch UFC live and Arden’s most recent adventure was a visit to see Kaylee in Europe in April. Those pictures and memories will be especially priceless. They also travelled extensively as a family. Arden had a passion for all sports, including playing football in high school and a lifelong interest in curling and golf. He enjoyed running marathons and recently encouraged his family to share in this passion. Arden was a true Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and has been a dedicated season ticket holder for 20 years. His passion for sports carried over to watching his nephews play hockey, baseball, and volleyball in which his presence will be greatly missed. Arden was preceded in death by grandparents, Peter and Sarah Giesbrecht, and George and Dorothy Bateman; uncle’s John Friesen and Don Klassen; cousin Randy Braun; Lorrie’s grandparents, Robert and Lillian Berrecloth, and Nick and Katie Lysak. He is survived by his wife Lorrie, his children Matthew (Lacey) and Kaylee; his parents Jake and Elsie; his sister Allyson Grose (Rod), and their children Shayne (Kelsey), Reiley (Jenna), and Rhett; his in-laws, Harold and Natalie Berrecloth; brothers-in-law Keith (Michelle), Malcolm (Carrie), Lance (Sherrie), Sheldon (Beth); nieces and nephews, Bryan (Tracy), Kolby, Shannon, Kegan, Kali, Chelsey (Trevor), Tara (Mitch), Ethan, Jaxon, Joel, Brooke (Kyle), Brandt, Carter, Dana (Eric), Aiden, Brett and Cole; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Arden’s incredible passion for life was evident in everything he did. He was a loving part of his family and extended family, his commitment to his job which developed into lifelong friendships with his co-workers, and his neighbors and friends that he cared about very much. Even through his very brief battle with cancer, he showed amazing courage, strength, and love for his family. His compassionate heart, love for life, and unforgettable smile will be greatly missed, and we will treasure his memory forever. Public Visitation will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Heritage United Church, 1050 North Arneson Street, Regina, SK on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, for Melanoma research, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
