Obituary of Gregg Hallsworth

Born at the Grey Nuns Hospital, Regina, Gregg passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013. Predeceased by parents, Jesse and Patricia Hallsworth; sister Alice; brother Brett; and sister-in-law Linda. Survived by brothers, Doug (Janet), Shane; dear friends and families. Gregg loved Saskatchewan in every way. He worked at Saskatchewan Environment for 31 years in several technical capacities including shoreline protection on man-made reservoirs and lakes; cottage areas, the Qu’Appelle Valley Planning Commissions, and finally in developing provincial waste management and recycling initiatives. The town of Regina Beach and residents were Gregg’s greatest passion. He served on Town Council from 1994 – 2000; and was on the executives of the Leisure Time Club, the Last Mountain Lake Cultural Centre, Lakeside Heritage Museum and Long Lake Lodge during his retirement years. He was affectionately known as “Greggie” the Regina Beach Town Historian, his greatest accomplishment being co-author of the town history book, “Right to the Point – A History of Regina Beach”. This lead to many happy adventures and world-wide friendships, researching old cottages and family histories at the Beach. “Derby House” and “Lettuce Loaf” have long been the places of fun and happiness for many generations and cherished friends and families at The Beach. Gregg always prided himself of being the first in the door of the Blue Bird Café for breakfast on its opening day on the Victoria Day Weekend. He loved to go swimming. In his younger years, Gregg tried to be first to swim in the lake in the spring. “Life is Happy” will be found on the marker at Gregg’s final resting place at Regina Beach Cemetery. Gregg did his best to bring smiles, comfort and help to all people. He was often “mistaken” to be Santa due to his stature and white beard and hair. This brought about many funny stories which Gregg loved to tell and place in his Christmas letter which everyone expected to be the first in their mailboxes. There will be a private graveside service and interment at a later date. The Regina Humane Society will be pleased to accept tributes in memory of Gregg, at P.O. Box 3143 Stn Main, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
