Obituary of Lorraine Bernadette Gaudry

Lorraine passed away at the age of 66 following a year-long battle with cancer. Lorraine, better known as “D” or “Auntie D,” was born in Moose Jaw, SK to René and Joan Gaudry (Horwood). She grew up in Moose Jaw, Regina and Oxford, England. She attended Urseline High School in Regina. She worked for the Provincial Government with the Department of Health (Medicare) and Securities Commission for 35 years. It was here that she met two lifelong friends, Eleanor and Marie. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years. She enjoyed doing altar guild and being a communion minister at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. In recent years, she found her passion and made many close friends within her knitting groups. They were commonly found enjoying coffee in the mall food court, having supper at Smitty’s, catching a movie or relaxing at the Golden Willow. These friends, as well as Marie, were a great strength and encouragement for her. Lorraine had a lot of hobbies. In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing – she sewed many coats, suits and skating costumes. As the years went along, she took up drawing, quilting and paper crafts. Her love of knitting started in retirement – she kept her family well-dressed with beautiful handmade items. Lorraine is survived by her brother Sidney (Caroline); her nieces and nephew Jacqueline (Matthew) McIlmoyl, Nichole (Michael) Diewold and Robert Gaudry; her very special great-nieces Paige and Lucy; her aunts in England Brenda and Edna Horwood; as well as many other family members in England: Renée, David, Donna, Susan, Collin. She was a very special “Auntie” to many honorary nieces and nephews: Daniel, Benjamin, Riley, Katie, Callan, Cayla, Carlin, Deven, Christie, Candace, Andrew and Gene. A Celebration of Lorraine’s Life will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Snook officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3. A special thanks to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and the Pasqua Hospital units 4C and 3B for their excellent care. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
