Obituary of Louis Perentes

t is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. Louis was born in Kastri, Kynourias, Greece on May 31, 1933 and passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, Chrisostomos and Anastasia; sister Stavroula and his brother-in-law Andreas Giannaris; in-laws Vasilios and Maria Karahalios; brother and sister-in-law George and Marty Karahalios; and a brother, Yianni, in infancy. Louis leaves to mourn his loss, his very loving and dedicated wife of 48 years, Irene; sons Chris (Vivian) Perentes and Bill (Fay) Perentes; daughter Tasia (Christos) Lygouriatis; nine grandchildren who were his pride and joy, George, Maria, Constantina, Ilias, Theodore, Katerina, Maria, Stavros and his little Irini. He is also survived by his loving brothers, Panayioti (Maria) and Bill (Bernice); sisters-in-law Lamprini (Jim) Kokonas and Soula (Nick) Roumeliotis; brother-in-law Lyle (Cassandra) Karahalios; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Louis immigrated to Canada on December 6, 1954 at the age of 21. He worked at Alcan in Kitmat, BC for three years, and came back to Regina where he operated a restaurant at the Grand Hotel with Peter Pantelakis and Gus Pontikes for a few years. In 1962, they opened the Golden Plaza Restaurant in the Golden Mile Mall. In 1964, Peter moved to Greece and John Gianoulis joined the partnership and they operated the restaurant until they retired in 1988. Many will also remember Pedeli Foods which they also operated at the Golden Mile for many years. After retirement, he spent his time tending his beautiful garden and enjoying the company of his grandchildren. He was one of the founders of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church and Community. He supported his church both monetarily and by volunteering his time at Mosaic’s Hellenic Pavilion. In this, he instilled in his children the importance of the Greek Orthodox faith and the Hellenic Culture.
