Obituary of Mathias Doerner

MATHIAS DOERNER Matt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Parkside Extendicare at the age of 88. He was born to Matthias and Franziska Doerner on April 23, 1925 in Tordinci, Croatia. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Katharina Doerner (nee Pfeiffer); and daughters, Monica (Gilbert) Ferré of Zenon Park and Erna (Gerard) Woynarski of Regina; grandchildren, Aimée Stang (Sheldon), Nicolas Ferré, Rosemarie Gelsinger (Trevor), Alicia Woynarski (Nathan), Adam Woynarski and Evan Woynarski; great-grandchildren, Jakob and Alexandre Gelsinger and Tristan Stang; two sisters, Regina Sigmund and Theresa Weigand of Cologne, Germany; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Matt grew up in Croatia, and after World War II, lived in Linz, Austria. In May of 1950, he married Katharina. Four years later they, along with their first child, Monica, immigrated to Canada, settling in Saskatoon. It was there that their second daughter, Erna, was born. They lived in Saskatoon until 2006, when they moved to Regina. Matt will be remembered for his unwavering love and pride for his family. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand to help family and friends. Matt had a natural talent for woodworking and spent many hours in the shop in his garage producing beautiful pieces of furniture. The family is grateful for the gentle and compassionate care given to Matt at Parkside Extendicare. Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Cross R.C. Church, 315 Douglas Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jose Periyilkatte presiding.
