Obituary of Lou Joorisity

LOU JOORISITY October 14, 1930 – October 7, 2013 In loving memory of my father, our family submits the following announcement. On Monday, October 7, 2013, Lou Joorisity passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home. The family wish to extend their appreciation to the Heritage Home staff for their caring, comfort and concern shown to our father, grandfather and great-grandfather during his time spent in the home. Dad was born to Don and Smelia Joorisity in Bethune, Saskatchewan where he spent his formative years of schooling. Even while helping on the family farm, Dad was actively involved in hockey and baseball. He married Phyllis Hoskins in 1953, continued his sport activities and purchased a mixed farm west of Bethune. A dream come true, where farming the land and raising livestock were not just a way of life but an all-consuming passion. He was a gentle man as well as a gentleman, a loving honest person of deliberation, carefully and unselfishly calculating choices and alternatives, never dividing his love, support and concern for family and friends, and was always open and ready to help when needed. Dad built lasting friendships in a time of community farming where neighbours were often considered extended family. He was a rich man in ways that matter most, family and friends. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis; parents Don and Smelia; brother Steve, brother-in-law Bob Topping; nephew Elton; in-laws O’Brien and Sadie Hoskins; and brother-in-law Bill Hoskins. Leaving to mourn his loss but celebrate a life well lived, son Glen (Wendy) Joorisity; grandchildren Shane (Kiki and great-grandson Pierce), Amanda, Glen and Nikki; sister Yvonne Topping; sister-in-law Ila Joorisity; sister-in-law Lillian (George) Pettigrew; sister-in-law Gail Hoskins; brother-in-law Leslie (Darlene) Hoskins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a special canine companion, “Dash.” At Dad’s request, there will be no funeral service. A private family graveside memorial will be held. Friends can honour Dad’s memory in their own way and time if they wish. In lieu of flowers and memorial donations, please enjoy a meal and quality time with your own family in memory of Lou.
