Obituary of Andrew Lawrence Rausch

ANDREW (ANDY) LAWRENCE RAUSCH, (October 17th, 1927-October 16th, 2013) Andy passed into God’s loving arms in Regina, Saskatchewan on October 16th, 2013, the eve of his 86th birthday. Andy will be missed and lovingly remembered by: Sophie, his wife of 65 years; children: Sharon (John Johnson) of Winnipeg MB; Don (Alia) of Calgary AB; Rick (Lynne) of London ON; Barb (Bob Dean), Brenda (Greg Fieger), and Ramona (Barry Clarke) of Regina SK; his sisters: Gertrude Sexsmith of Virden MB and Charlotte Raaymakers of Calgary AB; his 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Andy was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Rausch of Langenburg SK and Veronica Patrick of Esterhazy SK; daughter Veronica Lorraine (Lori); and sisters Mabel Goodman and Lorraine Fearron. Andy was born on October 17th, 1927 in Esterhazy. While enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force based out of Gimli MB he met and later married Sophie. Together they built a life in Virden and Winnipeg, finally settling in Regina, where he spent the last forty years of his life. His thirty seven year career with CN/CP telecommunications included time in Virden, Winnipeg and retired as Superintendent in the Regina office. Andy was always very generous with his time, acting as a beloved family chauffeur, provider and outstanding role model to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His active community volunteerism extended to his church, including the Knights of Columbus; and the local service organization the Kiwanis Club of Regina, where he was President in 1987/1988 and was later bestowed an honorary membership in 2012. Andy enjoyed travelling with his wife Sophie, including annual trips to Hawaii. Andy stayed active curling and golfing with friends. His pleasant disposition and easygoing nature endeared him to those who were blessed to know him. Andy’s Funeral Mass will be held in Regina at St. Martin de Porres Roman Catholic Church, 4720 Castle Road, on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 10:30 am with Fr. Ken Koep presiding. This will be followed by a celebration of his life in the parish hall. Andy’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Solace Care Homes Ltd. whose service and support helped make Andy’s last year and particularly his final days as comfortable as possible.
