Obituary of William James McGill

WILLIAM “BILL” JAMES McGILL November 8, 1929 – November 9, 2013 Bill passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the age of 84 at the Pasqua Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Isobel McGill and sister-in-law Marilyn McRae. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean; their children, Barry, Bob (Ela), Mary-Ellen (Scott) Irvine and Michelle (Tom) Buhay; grandchildren, Craig (Jenny) and Krista Irvine, Macey McGill (Ryan), Hope Landry and Emma-Lou, Tucker, Cooper, Billie and Burk Buhay; sister Jean (Allan) Duncan; brothers-in-law, John McRae and Donald McRae; as well as extended family and many friends. He was born in Dodsland, SK. Bill took his elementary schooling in McLean and Regina and high school in Lumsden. He then worked for Clayton and Helen Tindall on the potato farm, then the Department of Highways and lastly at SaskTel Warehouse, retiring in 1991 after 26 years. Bill was very community minded and enjoyed volunteering his time. He was a cub leader for seven years and was treasurer for the Lumsden Minor Hockey and then the Lumsden Monarchs Hockey Club for many years. Bill also served on the Town of Lumsden Parks Committee, Lumsden Drop-In executive and was very involved in the Lumsden Museum. In retirement, his much loved hobby was making wooden toys. Graveside Service will be held at the Lumsden Cemetery, Lumsden, SK on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Marjorie Kent officiating (followed by lunch and time of fellowship at the Lumsden Centennial Hall). In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory, may be made to the Lumsden Historical Society, Box 91, Lumsden, SK, S0G 3C0, or a charity of your choice.
