Obituary of George Everett Ward

George Ward was a small man who made a large impact on his world. Born October 11, 1917, the 8th of 10 children, his formative years were spent in the dustbowl of the prairies in the dirty thirties, and while he felt a strong call to Christian ministry early in life it seemed an unlikely dream. The encouragement of friends and family combined with his own determination and acute intelligence eventually led him to earn three University degrees and an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, St. Andrews College in Saskatoon. At University he met Mary Menzies who joined him in marriage and ministry and together they built faith and community across Western Canada for the next 57 years. He ministered in the United Church at Marsden, Earl Grey, Elrose, Grenfell, and then worked throughout Saskatchewan with the Canadian Bible Society. George and Mary retired to Victoria in 1986 where they continued to actively build community in the church and in their neighborhood. George outlived all of his siblings and his dear wife, and is survived by and will be sorely missed by his children Garnet (Isabel), Rory, Rosemary (Derrick Bellows), grandchildren Sarah (Bob O'Halloran), Ian (Sarah Rennie), Emily (Tom Stewart), Natasha Bellows, Sheena (Ian Rivett) and dearest great granddaughter Lila Stewart. Memorial Service will be held at Broadway Terrace, 1150 Broadway Avenue, Regina on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in memory of George may be made to the United Church M&S Fund at www.united-church.ca
