Obituary of Robertta Mae Monkhouse

Robertta passed away with her family by her side on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the age of 84 years. Mom was predeceased by her two husbands, Edward Monkhouse and Ted Batters; her parents Bob and Eunice Hales; her brother Doug; and son-in-law Quinton Hornoi. She is survived by her four children, Lowell, Mary-Jane Hornoi, Gaye (Dan) Holliday, Rob (Fern); eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson; her brother Bobby (Marj) Hales, sister Joyce Allin, aunt Dorothy Dunn, three sisters-in-law, Melva Aikens, Marjorie Johnson, and Erma Harrison; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom instilled the importance of working hard in her family by setting an example either by her part in farming, running her own business, working in an office and in the later years keeping up the yard work and the everyday running of a family cottage. Her cooking and sewing skills were amazing with special holiday dresses for the little girls, to cooking many specialties for our family functions. Many people have had the privilege of eating her pies and cinnamon buns over the years. Mom enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's events and was looking forward to attending her granddaughter's wedding on New Year’s Eve and the upcoming births of two new great grandchildren. At Mom's request no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations to the Regina Food Bank, 445 Winnipeg Street, Regina SK, S4R 8P2 or Souls Harbor Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 3356, Stn. Main, Regina SK, S4P 3H1. We would like to invite Family and Friends to join us at a reception to remember Mom on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina.
