Obituary of Matthew Kuzyk
MATTHEW KUZYK
Matthew passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina at the age of 85 years. He was born in Sokoliwka, Lviv, Ukraine on March 30, 1928. Matthew was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Paraska (Dendiuk) Kuzyk; two sisters, Maria and Katherine; and his wife and the mother of his children, Natalie. He is survived by his second wife Krystyna; two sons, Basil (Shelley) and Terry (Karen); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild to come in January; sister-in-law Emily Stechyshyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Matthew came to Canada, settling in Regina in 1953. In 1958, he married Natalie and they were blessed with two sons. Natalie passed away in 1981. Matthew remarried Krystyna in 1983 and they enjoyed family times, travelling together, and a full life in Regina for many years. He initially worked for the CPR, then began his career as a baker, working for various companies, retiring from Regent Park Safeway in 1993. Matthew was a long-time member of St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. Prayers will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street, Regina on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park.
