Obituary of Dona Marilyn Hansen

Dona was born on December 29, 1931 in Regina, the city she proudly resided in until the time of her death. Her beloved daughter and best friend Paula, grandson Michael, and his wife Laura remained by her side for the duration of her short illness. Paula was present at her death, on the morning of Monday, December 23, 2013. Dona was predeceased by her mother and father, Eva and Stacey (Stack) Tibbits, and by her granddaughter Kaitlin Beatch. Left to mourn her loss are: son Michael (Karen) Hansen, and grandchildren, Tyler, Dana, and Nicholas; daughter Rhonda (Doug) Berg and grandchildren, Dylan (Fiance Gelina Syfchyck) and Jason; son John (Sharon) Hansen and grandson Damien; daughter Paula Beatch and grandson Michael (Laura) Beatch, and angelic twin great-granddaughters Lilianna and Alexandrina Beatch; daughter Cynthia (Pat) Hayes and granddaughter Stacie Donison (Scott) Elliott. She also leaves behind many other relatives and lifelong friends. Dona worked in healthcare for her entire career. She began as a dietician at the Pasqua Hospital (Grey Nuns), and when the Plains Hospital opened, she was promoted to Director of Dietetics for the Plains and Pasqua Hospitals and for the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Dona retired in 1993, but remained very active in the community. She was a member of her IODE group until it disbanded and renamed itself the “Out of Order Girls.” They continued to meet several times a year to socialize, to catch up on each other’s lives, and to brag about their grandchildren. Dona was a member of and volunteer at the Mackenzie Art Gallery; Dona worked in the library and for a variety of social events put on by the gallery. She also proudly held her membership with her sorority house until her passing. Dona was a proud member of the German Wine Society. Mom and “Nana” will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Flowers are graciously declined, but those wishing may make a donation in memory of Dona to the Regina Humane Society, PO Box 3143 Stn Main, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7 or the Regina General Hospital NICU, c/o Hospitals of Regina Foundation, PO Box 1697 Stn Main, Regina, SK, S4P 3C6 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
