Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Waechter

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, after a long, hard, and courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty, late of Regina, at the age of 79. Betty was predeceased by her husband Raymond (1997); her parents Clyde and Mary Bragdon; sister Shirley and brother-in-law Frank Wright. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Diane; nieces and nephews Michael (Roxanne) Wright; Kim (Terry) Hnatuk; Mary (Joe) Goncalves; Frank (Brenda) Wright, all from Winnipeg, Manitoba; great and great-great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and wonderful friends. Betty was born on November 22, 1932 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her early education was received at Isbister, Hugh J. MacDonald Junior High, and Gordon Bell High Schools. At age 17, she began working for the Hudsons Bay Company, holding various positions until she became Human Resources Manager. In 1967 she moved to Regina, SK and was responsible for hiring staff at the Bay store. Among other responsibilities, she continued to manage and oversee 22 departments. Betty was with the company for 28 years. In 1971, she met her late husband in Regina and they married in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 26, 1974. Betty was a member and past president of the Federation of Business and Professional Womens Club. After her Bay years? she became focused on her family. Betty enjoyed many activities: bowling, curling, golfing, gardening, and was an avid traveler, especially to her favorite and last place she visited this February, Hawaii. Sincere and heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, Pasqua Hospital 3B and Palliative Care Unit, William Booth Grace Hospice, and all the doctors and nurses who attended to Bettys needs, offering support and assistance. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam, may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 204 3775 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK, S4S 6W8.
