Obituary of Rev. Leonard Albers

Fr. Len passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 7, 2014 at age 89. Predeceased by his parents, William and Mary (nee Bruner); siblings, Tony, Elie, Henry, Andrew, Herman, Catherine, and sisters-in-law; he is survived by his brother Fes Albers, sisters-in-law Margaret and Frances, numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, former parishioners, and fellow clergy who will miss him. He was raised on a farm in the Big Muddy Valley area south of Bengough, SK. After his schooling, he took further studies at Wilcox and Regina and was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1948. Fr. Len served as parish priest at Estevan, Langenburg, Manor, Wynyard, Wilcox, Moosomin, Marquis, Ituna and Vibank and all associated parishes. Mary Van Caeseele became his housekeeper in Langenburg in 1955 and remained with him until her death in August 2010. After serving as a priest for 53 years, he retired in 2001 and moved to Regina. In recent years Fr. Len has lived at Martha House residence. The family wishes to thank the sisters and staff at Martha House for the care and kindness shown to him. Fr. Len had many interests including watching, organizing, and playing baseball, researching the Albers genealogy, playing cards, listening to classical music, playing his fiddle, and visiting with his extended family and friends. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Child Parish, 2636 – 7th Avenue East, Regina at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Burial will follow on Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bengough Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing, may make a donation in memory of Fr.
