Obituary of Vera Bennett

Vera, a proud and lifelong Reginan, was called home on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the age of 84. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Alice Bennett; sisters Alice and Doris Bennett; cousins Joyce Anderson and Jeanne Hay, Vera is survived by cousin Ethel Argan and family (Regina); and extended family Blake and Betty Anderson (Saskatoon), Ted Hay (Stony Plain), Mark, Roxanne, Eric and Paul Anderson (Regina), Lynne, Blair, Aaron, Cecily, Ethan, Ezrah and Romeo MacPherson (Saskatoon), Rhonda and John Norman (Edmonton), Jonathan, Heather and Samuel Anderson (Saskatoon), Graham and Jill Shaw (Manchester, England), Sandra Tanner (Perth, Scotland), and members of the Goodridge, Oldstrom and Crompton families (B.C.). After graduating from Balfour Technical School following World War II, Vera began her working career as a secretary in a law firm before moving on to Sears for 12 years and finally to the Ministry of Education for another 27 years as an administrative assistant. In addition to her professional life, Vera was a longtime member of Westminster United Church, its sanctuary choir and the Daughters of England Benevolent Society. Vera was beloved as a woman of integrity and cheerfulness. She was especially close to her sisters Alice and Doris with whom she lived for 83 years. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the kind staff and nurses at Pioneer Village and to Dr. Rasmussen. A Funeral Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Vera's life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. with Darrell Reine officiating. Flowers are most gratefully declined.
