Obituary of Mildred Viola Haack

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Viola Haack (nee Swarthout), who passed away at Radville Hospital on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Gordon; and her parents Floyd and Belle Swarthout. Mildred will be lovingly remembered by her children: Neal (Kathy), Jennifer (Brad) and Craig (Jessica); Garth; Paul (Kathleen), Kendra (Lee) and David (Lindsay); Leanne (Murray) Anderson, Rylan and Shalayne; Cheryl (Rick) Lynch, Thomas, Melissa (Grant), Bryan (Katrina) and Steven; four great-grandsons and her sister Rena Reid. Mother was in the Archydale district while her parents Floyd and Belle Swarthout were working on the Getty Farm. Eventually they found themselves in Drinkwater area in 1938. She completed most of her primary education in Drinkwater and finished high school in Notre Dame College in Wilcox, and then she attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. Mother taught in Emerald Hill at Milestone and Rosenburg at Edenwold. She married Gordon Haack at the Drinkwater United Church in April 4, 1953. They settled on the farm in the Buck Lake area and soon tore down the original house and built the house that is currently home to her son Neal and his wife, Kathy. Times weren’t easy when they started their life on the farm, but they persevered in spite of all the difficulties and soon began to raise a family. Millie and Gordon were active in the local community, including their membership in the Yankee Ridge Community, Wilcox United Church, Gray Square Dance Club, Milestone United Church, Milestone Legion Auxiliary, Milestone Masons and Order of the Eastern Star, C.G.I.T. and the 4-H Club. She was also very active in the Hi-12 club which put on quite a few dances and other social events. Millie and Gordon continued to live on the farm until 1975 when they retired to Milestone. After Gordon’s passing in 1998, Millie moved into Carrington Court, where she spent many happy years until her health started to deteriorate. Then she took up residence in Pangman Personal Care Home until shortly before her passing. Mom’s greatest love and legacy are her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Millie may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Wa Wa Shrine 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK S4P 2E1.
