Obituary of Eleanore Marie King

On January 29, 2014, Eleanore Marie King (nee Ciuca) passed away at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband Dr. Mark A. King, on January 29, 1967; her father Pete Ciuca in 1950; her mother Annie Danis in 2001; and her brother Gene Ciuca in 1984, Eleanore is survived by her daughters, Jay-Ann (Richard Clyde) of Regina, Marcia of Victoria, Tracy of Victoria and her grandson Connor Clyde of Regina. Eleanore was especially beloved by her family and her many friends. Born on November 3, 1928 in Regina, she attended both elementary and high school there and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts. From 1947 to 1949 she was a member of the U of S Huskiette basketball team. After marrying in 1950, Eleanore and Mark lived in Nipawin for three years before moving back to Regina where Mark pursued his chiropractic practice and Eleanore raised their daughters. Following Mark’s death, Eleanore joined the Co-operators where she had a successful career in the systems department. Eleanore was an active member of the Canadian Information Processing Society and one of the inaugural members of the systems department that introduced computerized banking and insurance services to the credit unions of Saskatchewan (including the first automated teller in Saskatchewan). She retired in 1989 to act as caregiver to her mother and aunt. Eleanore served as a member and the first woman chairperson of the Board of the Sherwood Credit Union (now Conexus Credit Union) and as a member of the Board of Cable Regina (now Access Communications). As a member, and then President, of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Regina, Eleanore represented Saskatchewan at several international congresses and was the first chairperson of Careers Unlimited, a program for female high school students to inform them about unconventional careers. A founding member of the South Saskatchewan Hospital Ethics Committee, Eleanore worked to establish standards of communication between patients, families, health care givers, and administration. She travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. Eleanore especially loved the many family Christmas holidays in Maui. We would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Kuzmicz and the staff of Regina Palliative Care for their unparalleled compassionate care during the last few months. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
