Obituary of Louis Ernest Toth

LOUIS ERNEST TOTH 1926 - 2014 In the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2014, Louis Ernest Toth passed peacefully into eternal life, while at home. Louis was born on the farm South West of Lestock on February 18, 1926, the eighth child of Steve and Victoria Toth. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Mary Kish-Varga, Anne Melenchuk, Elizabeth Melenchuk and Victoria (infancy); and brothers Steve, Joseph, John, James, and Elmer. Louis leaves to mourn his loving wife Maureen; children, Edwin, Donna, Laura (Kurt) Gulash and Kevin (Cara); grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica, Emily and Matthew Gulash; Abby and Ashlyn Toth; brother Les (Rita); sister Helen (Merv) Kealey; and sister-in-law Yolanda Toth. Louis graduated from the U of S in Electrical Engineering in 1952 and began work with Saskatchewan Government Telephones (SaskTel) and with the exception of 4 years with BC-Tel, he worked his entire career with SaskTel retiring in 1983. He was one of the engineers who helped test and install the microwave towers in Saskatchewan in the late 1950's. Late in his career Louis was heavily involved in the Planning Department and with future community development of underground communication infrastructure. After retiring from his first career, he became Warehouse Supervisor at the Regina Food Bank for seven years and later, an Investment Representative for 10 years. Throughout his life, Louis volunteered in many organizations and was an active lifetime member; of the Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers and the Association of Professional Engineers. Louis was definitely an engineer at home, with his brilliance, he was able to fix or modify anything so it would have new life. Louis enjoyed woodwork, golfing, gardening, fishing and many more outdoor activities. Later in his life he focused on his faith and family. He was a key member of the founding group in the development of the Vocation Program in the Elementary Schools associated with Holy Trinity Parish. Prayers will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 5020 Sherwood Drive, Regina on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Andree presiding. Private interment will take place in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make donations in memory of Louis to Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 5020 Sherwood Drive, Regina, SK, S4R 4C2 or to the Regina ProLife Association, Box 24136, Regina, SK, S4P 4J8.
