Obituary of Elsie Fekula

On Sunday, February 9, 2014, Elsie, late of Regina, passed away peacefully at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Benson in 2003; parents Harry and Barbara Dudar of Ethelbert, MB; her brothers Peter and Walter of Dallas, TX, William of Saskatoon, Michael of Dauphin,MB and Nicholas of Winnipeg, MB. She will be sadly missed by her son Glen (Brenda); grandchildren Brad and Ashley; sister Ann of Dallas, TX, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Elsie was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba on December 29, 1924. She married Benson Fekula on June 18, 1949, where they worked together to operate the family farm. When Benson accepted a position with United Grain Growers, they moved to Regina in 1963. Benson and Elsie were also very active members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In 2009 Elsie was recognized by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada for her 50 years of membership and dedicated volunteer work. She will be sadly missed by her many friends at the church. After Benson’s death in September of 2003, Elsie moved to Selo Gardens Seniors Complex. In 2007, she was the first resident of the newly opened Selo Gardens Care Home, where she received outstanding care from their staff. In April 2011, Elsie moved to Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, where the staff of units 3-3 and 2-5 provided excellent care and attention to all of her needs during the three years that she resided there. Special thanks to Elsie’s roommate Donna Leuschen, for her great companionship. Requiem (Panachyda) will be held at Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1305 12th Avenue, Regina, on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Rite will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers are most gratefully declined.
