Obituary of Rosalie "Rose" Helen Zora

ROSALIE “ROSE” HELEN ZORA Rose was born May 22, 1916, died on February 14, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Dan, Euey, Nora, Betty and Johnnie. Rose is survived by siblings, Marie, Bea and Jean; as well as several nieces and nephews. She grew up in the Victoria Plains district and finished school at Victoria Plains School. Rose was nanny with Cousin Louise Vasser while she was growing up. She took a secretarial course at Balfour Tech and was also in nurse’s training for one year in Chicago, but returned upon her brother Johnnie’s death. Rose worked for Co-op Creameries as secretary and then joined the Provincial Dairy Division in the Legislative Building and worked there until her retirement. She lived with her four sisters on Broad Street, L’Arche Crescent, and then for the last few years at the Marion Chateau. Rose was a talented needle worker, making many beautiful pictures in fine needlepoint, petit point and crewel work. Some of her pieces are still displayed at Government House. She knit fine wool socks for her family, and for many lucky postmen. Rose’s homemade marmalade jam was superb and she was famous for her almond crunch candy she would make every Christmas. She always looked forward to spring, so she could start planting perennials in the yard, creating a relaxing and beautiful natural atmosphere. Rose and her sisters travelled extensively, gathering treasures and stories from around the world, including Europe, States and the Caribbean. The Aunties’ House was a favorite stop for family and friends, whether it was just for a cup of tea or for a longer, more leisurely visit. Rose had a generous, calm demeanor and she will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rose, may be made the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, #204-3775 Pasqua Street, Regina SK, S4S 6W8. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
