Obituary of Virginia Munro

M. VIRGINIA “GINNY” MUNRO Born in Regina on June 19, 1952, Ginny passed away peacefully at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice on Sunday, February 16, 2014 in the loving embrace of Garry, her devoted husband of 40 years. Predeceased by her parents, Doug and Bette Catling (Crabtree); Ginny is lovingly remembered by her husband Garry Munro; sons, Riley (Jacqui) Munro of Lancaster UK and Derek Honeyman of Tuscon AZ; grandsons, Isaiah and Asher Munro; sister Marlyn (Michael) Keaschuk of Regina Beach; niece Anna (Dan) Keaschuk of Doha, Qatar; and nephew Evan Keaschuk of Ottawa. Ginny was fondly embraced by Garry’s siblings and their families, notably Brian and Andrea Terry Munro; and by devoted friend of over 42 years, Mary (John) Cruse of Ottawa. Ginny grew up and, in turn, raised her family in Regina, spending weekends and summers at Regina Beach. As a child, Ginny embraced the lake life: playing on the beach or at the Regina Beach Yacht Club, water skiing or boating on Last Mountain Lake, and winters snowmobiling, including racing throughout the province. Many of Ginny’s closest friendships were forged in those early years and she considered herself blessed to retain those friendships for over 50 years. She and Garry have called Buena Vista home for seven years. Ginny began her career as a bookkeeper, working for several local businesses. Garry and Ginny began building custom homes in the Regina area in 1984 and by the mid-1990’s was working full time at Munro Homes. Ginny was proud of the success of Munro Homes Ltd. and remained a vital partner in the business until her retirement in 2012. Ginny was an avid and accomplished traveller whose adventurous spirit led her to travel in Asia, Europe, China, the Caribbean, and throughout North America. She wanted to see the world, and ignited a passion for travelling in her many travel companions. Recently, Ginny and Garry fell in love with the warmth and unique character of Arizona and were able to pass winters together at their home in Scottsdale. Ginny was immensely proud of her family. She was a compassionate mother and a generous grandmother. Ginny especially enjoyed time with Riley: boating, snowmobiling, going for coffee, travelling, or just catching up on the phone. Watching the grandchildren play in her yard with their beloved companion, Cooper, the 90 lb. “puppy,” gave Ginny great joy. Ginny’s family would like to thank several people who made her journey through cancer easier: the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, particularly Dr. Chalchal and John; the chemo therapy staff and James; Dr. Sarah McLaughlin; the Palliative Care and Regina Wascana Grace Hospice staff; and the many friends and family members who reached out to Ginny with love and support. A Memorial Service will be held at Hotel Saskatchewan, 2125 Victoria Avenue, Regina SK on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jennifer Holtslander officiating. Flowers are respectfully declined but donations to the Regina Humane Society, P.O.
