Obituary of Elsie Petrowicz

Elsie Petrowicz (nee Manz), late of Regina, SK, died on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Pasqua Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Brandsgard, her son Roy (Cynthia), her grandchildren, Greg Brandsgard (Karmen Klarenbach), Angela Mueller (Dale), Natasha Morris (Jason) and Blayne West (Michael), granddaughter-in-law Dasha Polyanskaya and great-grandchildren Hayden Brandsgard, Aundrea and Colin Mueller, Kylen, Brendan and Erica Morris. She is also survived by her sister Clara Scheske Gee, brother Wilfred Manz, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kelly and Eula Wagner, brothers-in-law Ernest Schmidt, Jack Morris and Gordon Jewell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Friederich and Otillia (nee Schander) Manz, her husband Matthew (Matt) Petrowicz, her sisters, Alma Schmidt and Helen Schmidt, brother Erhart Manz, grandson Ryan Petrowicz, son-in-law Harry Brandsgard and numerous in-laws. Elsie was residing at Qu’Appelle House in Regina, SK. She passed away after complications from a fall. Elsie was born on July 15, 1920 in her parent’s farm in the Southey District. She received her education at Kingsville School. Matt and Elsie married on July 16, 1941. During the winter of 1942, they purchased Valley View Farm in the Southey District. Matt and Elsie farmed and lived there until 1993. They moved into Regina where they lived at Hamilton Plaza and Broadway Terrace. For 25 years they spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona. Elsie loved the farm, the garden, her flowers, yard and the excitement of the harvest. Family was very important to her and much of her social life revolved around family. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Elsie spent many happy hours playing cards. Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1037 Victoria Avenue, on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Southey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Qu’Appelle House, 1425 College Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 1B4. A special thank you to the staff at Qu’Appelle House who took such good care of Elsie and to the nursing staff of Unit 3D at the Pasqua Hospital.
