Obituary of David Sutherland

David passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, after an extended illness. Dave lived his life on his own terms and that often meant taking it to the limit – as many of us witnessed over the most recent Holiday Season. To the amazement of his doctors, Dave followed through with his plan to celebrate his last Christmas and New Years at home with his beloved family of friends. Dave hated vegetables and loved Labatt’s Lite, paralyzers, cigarettes, coffee and chocolate donuts…as well as breakfast at Smitty’s, “Law and Order” and feeding the birds. Dave never allowed social restraints or legalities to govern his life. He was thoroughly genuine – a quality that drew others to him – as did his storytelling. He was happiest surrounded by friends listening to him telling and re-telling tall tales about his various escapades. He loved having money, but he loved nothing more than sharing what he had with others. David was always quick to pull out his man purse to pay the bill. Dave will be missed and remembered by: his partner in crime, Brian; “if looks could kill” Mary-Lyn; old-time comrade Diane; favorite girl Daisy (Brooklyn); Best Buddy Slade; Leg-man Leon; Second Mom Rose; “little linebacker” Sophia; “we laughed so hard” Fiona and children; and “great to talk to you again” Steve. We would like to thank the entire Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region for the wonderful care and support Dave received over the last few years.
