Obituary of James D. Jones

It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of James D. Jones on Friday March 7, 2014 in his eighty-seventh year. He is predeceased by his loving wife of sixty years, Lucile Jones, parents Ethel Jane and Joseph Jones, brothers Robert, John, Edward, Richard and sister, Ethel Jane Forrest. Celebrating a "life well lived" and cherishing his memory, are his daughters Maureen Quick, Kathleen (Kirk) Ziola, and son Roger Jones. Also, he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Leah Quick, Sean Ziola and Justin Ziola, special friends Al Jackson and Evan Quick, and sisters and brothers -in-law, Isobel and Jim Wilson and Donna and Bob Lusted, and many nieces and nephews who were dear to him. Jim will be remembered for his many years of fine service through his business, Jim Jones Realty. He was well respected for his integrity and caring service for his clients. JIm was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary Of Confederation in 1992. The medal honors Canadians who have made a significant contribution to their fellow citizens and to their community. Jim was actively involved with the John Howard Society. He helped raise public awareness through his work as the host of Regina's first open line radio show, "Sherwood Open Line." He taught the Dale Carnegie course in Regina, Moose Jaw and Swift Current. He moderated the "Let's Talk" series at the Regina Public Library for several years. He served as the first president of the Globe Theatre. Jim was a lifelong member of the United Church serving in various capacities. Through his lifetime, he maintained a lively interest and involvement in politics and social justice issues. We will gather to honor Jim's life on Monday, March 17 at 2:00 P.M. at Sunset United Church 177 Sunset Drive with Kathy Platt officiating. In memory of Jim, donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 1343 Regina, S4P 3G7. A special thanks to the caring staff at Weshill Manor where Jim most recently lived.
