Obituary of Merlin Norman Roome

MERLIN NORMAN ROOME June 15, 1927 – March 13, 2014 Merle passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 with his family by his side after an extremely brief illness. Once diagnosed two weeks ago with cancer, Dad’s response was “Let’s get on with this” and that he did. He was predeceased by his father Norman, his mother Edna and her second husband Wes Bates, his second wife Elizabeth (Betty), his brother Ronald and sister-in-law Mary and Terry’s mom Marie. Merlin is survived by his loving daughter Terry, special son-in-law Greg and dearly loved granddaughters Stephanie and Jacelyn, as well as numerous friends and relatives. Due to his father’s passing when Merle was two years old, he took on the role of helping to provide for his family at a very young age. This developed a strong independence and work ethic which helped him all through his life and with the successful printing and photo-finishing businesses he managed and owned. Merle was a man of many interests including memberships in fraternal and service organizations, countless clubs, gardening, art, published storywriter, model plane building and an avid outdoorsman to name but a few. If something needed to be done, he was the man called on to do it and do it right. Merle and Betty thoroughly enjoyed travelling and cruising and went on many trips over the years. Their retirement was spent in Kannata Valley, SK, Brownsville Texas and Qualicum Beach, BC. Dad had just moved back to Regina last September to be close to his family after Betty passed away in December of 2012. Merle had many, many dear friends that he treasured and he loved all the good times spent with them. Dad had a marvelous sense of humour and loved entertaining friends and family. He always had a quick wit and an answer for everything. In honouring Dad’s wishes, there will not be a service. We would like to express our thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at the Pasqua Hospital and Wascana Grace Hospice over the course of these past few weeks. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity or organization of your choice as a token of remembrance. Miss Me But Let Me Go
