Obituary of Edward Desrosiers

EDWARD “ED” DESROSIERS Edward passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side, on Sunday, March 16, 2014. He was predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn and Mary; brothers, George and Earnest; as well as sister-in-law Gail Hickie. Ed is survived by his wife Maxine; son Sean; brothers-in-law, Hank Michalski and Edward Hickie; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was born at the family farm on December 15, 1939. Ed went to Farrell school until he passed grade 8, then farmed with his dad. By 1958, he began playing with some other Grayson boys in a band called the Rhythm Orchids, while still farming. Ed married Maxine Greer in July 1962 and they lived in the school teacherage where she taught until 1965. At that time Ed went to work on construction at IMC K2 for three years. He was still driving to keep playing in the band although he and Maxine had moved to Spy Hill. Ed went underground in 1968 and then quit playing in the Orchids. After being a miner operator for years, Ed went back to school and became a Journeyman Electrician in the late 70’s. He was very active in the Spy Hill community. Ed served on town council for several terms, sat on the Golf Club and served on the Carlton Trail Regional Park Board for almost 20 years. At this time, he was also elected to the Saskatchewan Regional Park Association which meant he travelled to many areas of our province for yearly conventions, seeing many beautiful locations we would have otherwise missed. Ed loved his golf games and tournaments and had many fun days and nights, especially once he was retired. In 2007 Ed was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the provincial board in recognition of the many years of volunteer service to the park. He was burned in 2003 which led to his retirement. Ed and Maxine then went to Arizona for three to five months each winter until he was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. After 47 years of living in Spy Hill they moved into Regina due to his health issues. A Memorial Service will be held at Spy Hill United Church, Spy Hill, SK on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
