Obituary of John Quarrell

Quarrell, John (Bill, Bimbo) - Bill was born April 2, 1954 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan and entered into rest peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Pasqua Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final days. Bill’s family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the General Hospital, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre and Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Bill was predeceased by his wife first wife Bertha (nee Blondeau); father Jack Quarrell; mother Josephine (nee Edwards) Carlisle; stepfather Lloyd Carlisle; brothers David Quarrell (in childbirth) and Pat Carlisle; niece Tracy Fiddler; mother-in-law Rosa Blondeau; grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his children Jennifer Quarrell, Melodie (Bryan) Ellis, Sherry (Tex) Young, Troy (Jaclyn) Elek, Annette Quarrell (Clayton); second wife Jean Caplette Gray; sisters Darlene Quarrell and Janice (Darwin) Rodgers; brothers-in-law Elie (Kathy) Blondeau and Henry (Cathy) Fiddler; grandchildren Alia Hennawi, Jessica and Jade Ellis, Colton Pratt, Chase, Brendan and Madison Young; nieces Tammy (Sam) Taypotat, Denise (Tyler) Blondeau (also Bill’s godchild), Kim (Scott) Taylor; Stacy (Casey) Fry, Sarah and Laura Rodgers, Tara Brown; nephews Wayne Blondeau, Jeremy and Michael Rodgers; great-nephews Axle and Jesse Fry, along with many relatives and friends. Bill grew up in Wapella where he attended school and played hockey, until moving to Moosomin in 1967 following the death of his brother Pat. He worked in various trades including mining and road construction, where he became an accomplished heavy equipment operator. His son Troy and daughter Annette joined him on the HJR crew and Troy worked alongside him until his last day of work. Bill’s last years were spent enjoying the company of friends and family, including his loyal 4-legged companion, Jake, who still looks for him every day. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014, beginning at 4:00 pm. A cash bar will be available, and a light supper will be served. Cash donations to help cover the cost of the celebration will be gratefully accepted, and any extra funds will be donated to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
