Obituary of Gary Reginald Crone

Gary, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 15, 2014, at the age of 78 years. He was predeceased by parents, Henry and Jean, brothers, Ray and Ron; sister Eileen; and child Roberta-Joanne. Gary is survived by his wife Georgia (nee Peacey); daughters, Michelle (Garth) Robstad and Andrea (William) Derr; sons, Mike (Kim) and Rob; grandchildren, Leah and Brett Trudelle, BreeAnne (Jared) Anderson, Colton Crone and Amanda, Kayla, Larissa, Rachelle and Brady Derr; and great-grandchildren, Issac and Paisley Derr. Gary was born November 11, 1935 in Saskatoon, SK. He was educated in Saskatoon and transferred to Regina by John Deere Ltd. where he worked in their Sales Promotion Department. Later, Gary joined the staff at the then new, CKCK-TV, where he was employed for almost ten years as a writer-producer, eventually leading to an Account Executive position. In 1965 Gary became the first licensed Distillery Representative in Southern Saskatchewan, an industry that he basically remained in, including having his own agency until his retirement. Through the years, Gary was a member or volunteer of many Clubs and Associations, including the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Regina Pats. He was President of the Saskatchewan Wine & Spirits Association for a number of years. Gary belonged to the Queen City Kinsmen Club and served on the District Executive on three separate occasions. He was past President of the Regina K-40 Club and served as a volunteer on many “special events” in Regina such as the Briers, World Curling, Grey Cup committee and Canada Summer Games. Gary’s greatest fulfillment came in his association with the Regina Exhibition Board where he served as a volunteer for a number of years, serving as a Director of the Association and being Buffalo Days Chairman in 1989. He was the Public Address Announcer for the Regina Rams in the Gord Currie era, and also was on the Public Address crew for the Roughriders for many years. Gary always said his proudest moments came when he was asked to produce the final “outdoor” Grandstand show prior to it being torn down to make way for the new Queensbury Centre. For that show, Gary contacted and brought back many of the favorite acts from over the years for a night of nostalgia that turned out to be a huge crowd favorite. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at Queensbury Downs Salon 3, Regina, SK on Thursday March 20, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to Wa Wa Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2E1.
