VIOLA ASLAUG FERRIS (nee Nordal) Viola passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was survived by her beloved husband Alick; daughter Cheryl Ann (Dr. Stewart) McMillan; her cherished grandchildren, Alick (Deanne) McMillan and Christopher (Suzanne) McMillan. She also leaves behind, her very special great-grandchildren, Carson, Connor, Addison and Aiden McMillan; her sisters Alma (Weldon) and Phyllis; brother Andrew (Lillian); sister-in-law Millie Nordal; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Viola was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Caroline Nordal; brothers, Gudmund, Asbjorn and Lief. She was born on the family farm near Bulyea on January 23, 1922. Viola attended Pengarth School. During WWII, Viola worked in Ontario as a “Bomb Girl.” During that time she played semi-professional softball with the Ajax Dilkins. After the war, she returned to Regina, completed a business course and worked in the business office of the Medical Arts Clinic. In 1947 Viola met the love of her life Alick Ferris. They wed in 1950 and started a lifelong partnership and love affair. Alick and Vi were successful in business (Ferris Electric), but the passion of their life together was always family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her garden, all things beautiful, her sense of humour, her chocolate cake and her loving and caring spirit. Through her long life, she was able to raise her own child, influence greatly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and ensure guidance for the future generations of the family to which she was so committed. “Mimi,” as she was called by her great-grandchildren, taught us to love life, each other and to value every day.
