Obituary of Donald John Garvey

DONALD JOHN GARVEY January 13, 1932 – March 27, 2014 Quietly on Thursday, March 27, 2014, Don passed on to the Kingdom of Heaven. He leaves behind his loving family, wife of 59 years, Muriel; children, Bradford (Elizabeth), Dwight (Shirley) and Rhonda (Claude); grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan), Jennifer (Ian), Thomas, Kristen and Jordan; brothers and sisters; Nora Goldie, Eleanor (Frank) Bobbee, Ted (Laura) Garvey, Monica (Garth) Cinnamon, Bernard Garvey and Marion (Jim) Brass; brother-in-law Bob (Fern) Mills; and many nieces and nephews. As a long time Regina Transit driver, Don was a frequent and familiar face throughout the city over his 36 years of service. With a great sense of humour and a strong moral compass, people meeting came easy with many lasting friendships being formed. He valued them dearly. One of Don’s greatest attributes was his compassion and willingness to help others, no task was too small, no request was denied. Neighbours and friends knew he would willingly help. These lifelong values were his cornerstones. Devotion to family as husband, dad, gramps and brother, was unquestionable. Don was the glue and strength that kept the family united. He will be missed but all the wonderful memories will keep him near and dear. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. The family wishes to give special thanks to the palliative care doctors and staff for their excellent care and comfort provided to Don. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory would be appreciated and may be made to the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit 3A, 4101 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK, S4T 1A5 or your favorite charity.
