Obituary of Edwin Herbert Puffalt

EDWIN HERBERT PUFFALT September 19, 1924 – April 5, 2014 Edwin Herbert Puffalt was born September 19, 1924 on the family farm at Kipling, the fourth child of Emil and Mary Puffalt. Following a heart attack the morning of April 4, he passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014, surrounded by his family in an atmosphere of loving harmony and peace. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 64 years, Ruth, and 3 sons: Don; Murray (Linda), and their children, Corey (Patty-Jo), Kevin (Caroline), Leanne (Nolan) McRae, and Michelle; Lorne (Marie) and their daughters, Shanelle and Rebecca, as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Also feeling the loss are his brothers, Victor (Simone) and Gordon (Ilona), and his sister Frances (Roy) Lonseth; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Emma, in infancy, his sister, Martha (Stan) Thompson, his brother, Albert (Rose) and his brother-in-law, Allan Alford. Edwin began his farming career very young. In fact, at one point, guiding the old Hart-Parr tractor down the field was a combined effort involving him and his older brother Albert, with one brother at the steering wheel and the other at the clutch, hoping they could get turned around again at the end of the field. Farming, however, was certainly not his whole life. At the age of twelve he began to feel a very real need to make a commitment to God in order to enjoy the same peace his parents had come to love a few years earlier. That commitment was the focal point of his life until his passing. On October 14, 1949, he married Ruth Ford of Yellow Grass, SK, and they began life together on the farm. Over the course of the next nine years they welcomed three sons, Don, Murray, and Lorne into their family. The boys gradually became his helpers around the farm, while he became their mentor and guide with his quiet ways and his careful approach to every situation. He also taught them to appreciate the beauty of natural creation. In 1983, Edwin and Ruth moved into their new home in the town of Kipling, and Murray and Linda assumed responsibility for the operation of the farm. Even after that, Edwin continued to be very involved in the farming operation, helping out as much and as often as he could, and remained very active until his last day. Soon after moving into town, Edwin and Ruth received the special privilege of having a little Sunday morning gathering in their home, which Edwin valued very highly. His life and gentle spirit are an inspiration to his family.
