Obituary of Karl Ellsworth Rasmussen

KARL ELLSWORTH RASMUSSEN May 26, 1923 - April 8, 2014 Karl passed away peacefully in the Veterans Wing at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre after a long battle with cancer. He was born on his parents farm near Milestone. Karl joined the Canadian Air Force during WWII, flying cargo command to places such as Murmansk, Africa and South America as a Flight Lieutenant. Upon returning to Canada, he and his brothers began a successful business. Dad belonged to the Masons, the WA WA Shrine and was the pilot of his own plane. In 1945, he married Jeanette “Irene” Van’t Haaff. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Enevold and Lottie Lowe (nee Myers) Rasmussen; brothers, Harold, Gordon, Robert, Dale and Donald; sister Shirley-Anne; sisters-in-law, Olive, Laura, Margaret Rasmussen, Marian, Eileen and Pat Van’t Haaff, Cora Kenny and Violet Clark; brothers-in-law, Henry Doody, Barry McMaster, Scottie Robb, Dave Clark, William and George Van’t Haaff and Les Kenny. He is survived by his sisters, Helen McMaster and Dorothy Doody; sister-in-in law Daisy Robb; brother-in-law John Van’t Haaff; wife Irene; daughter Shirley Ann (Chris) Spencer of Regina, SK, son Kenneth (Laura) Rasmussen of White Rock, BC; grandchildren, Aaron Burns of Victoria, BC, Joelle (Dan) Klinck of Penhold, AB, Jehanne Marie Burns of Burnaby, BC, Jeffrey Rasmussen of Vancouver, BC, Michael Rasmussen of Langley, BC and Jennifer Rasmussen (David DiPaolo) of Maple Ridge, BC; great-grandchildren, Jacob R. Karl Vallee-Burns, Olivia Ann Vallee-Burns, Mason Klinck, Aiden Rasmussen and Matteo DiPaolo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Interment Ceremony will be held at Regina Cemetery, 4th Avenue and Broad Street, Regina, SK on Monday April 14, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a memorial tea at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK.
