Obituary of Ione Annette Vollet

IONE ANNETTE VOLLET It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mom on Sunday April 13, 2014 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 78 years. She was predeceased by her husband Laurence Vollet and infant son Larry; parents, Ole and Annette Swenson; as well as sisters, Pearl (Mel) Baker, Irene (Art) Baker and Sylvia (John) Skoczylas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eldon (Joan) Vollet, Clarence (Mae) Vollet, Barry Vollet, Morley (Kay) Vollet, Ken (Anne) Vollet, Roger (Marcella) Vollet, Gerald Vollet and Loretta Wirth. Ione is survived by her son Kevin (Linda) of Indian Head, SK; her sister in-law Joyce Vollet; her brother-in-law Art Wirth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ione, the youngest of four girls was born in Pinto, SK and raised in North Portal. She moved to Regina to work as a waitress at Woolworth’s. Ione met Laurence “Butch” in Regina and they married in 1956. The two of them worked various jobs in Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon and it was here where they spent the majority of their working years before semi-retiring in Saskatoon until his passing in 2007. Mom then re-located to Regina where she remained until her passing. Mom loved to be in the garden when she was able to have one and was a keen, sharp crossword wiz and loved to play cards. Family was very important to Mom as she was the encyclopedia of family and friend’s birthdates, anniversaries and special events. Ione took a keen interest in all the lives of her nieces, nephews and their children. She was a fan of all of Kevin’s sporting endeavors and became an avid Roughrider fan. Mom was a hard worker, remained independent and was a very humble and private person. A huge thank you to the doctors and nurses of the General Hospital, 6th floor and especially the 2nd floor MICU staff, along with Anna Belle at the Horizon. Mom battled the past three years with a heart conditions and COPD. Ione fought with great strength and will now be able to rest peacefully. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Ione’s name, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 – 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8 or the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 – 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 0S5.
