Obituary of Doris Knight

DORIS KNIGHT With sadness, we announce the passing of Doris Knight, born May 16, 1924, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Pasqua Hospital Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her mother Anastasia McKetsy (1887-1959) and father Fred McKetsy (1884-1951); her nine siblings, Annie Coons (Herbert), Kay Forseth (Slim), Charlie McKetsy (Sophie Chubak), Mike (Annie Daniluik), Mary Bittner (Otto), Bill (Doris Blakely), John McKetsy (Bella Zazelanchuk), Helen Murphy (Jim) and Julie Pearce (Lawrence). Doris was born on the family farm north of Sheho, SK and attended Dunrobin elementary school and later graduated from high school in Invermay, SK. Doris arrived in Regina in 1946 and worked as a Legal Secretary until 1948 when she married Charlie Knight of Regina, SK. She is survived by her husband Charlie; her two sons, Dennis and Robert; her seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Doris was active in charity works and was President of the Regina Canadian Club. She was President and Manager of Opera Saskatchewan and in 1996 received the Order of Canada, in 2005 the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and in 2010 received the Jacquie Schumiatcher “Women of Distinction” Award. Doris brought the first professional opera to Saskatchewan during this period. She has touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
