Obituary of Robert C. Cosbey Sr.

Robert C. Cosbey (Sr.) left this world at the age of 99 on Friday, May 23, 2014, at the Wascana Grace Hospice of Regina, Saskatchewan, where he spent his last ten days surrounded by loving family and friends, serenaded by his grandchildren playing Bach, and in his final minutes listening to young friends read Chaucer. The family wish to thank the people at Dove House, where Bob spent most of his final year, for their loving care. Bob was happy there. In his words “it’s the people that make the difference.” Bob is survived by daughter Elizabeth, sons Robert Jr. (Sandra), Aaron (Jackie) and Tim (Virginia); grandchildren Thomas (Michelle), Peter (Mariko), Catherine (David), David, Aven and Cameron; and great-grandchildren Carl and Nozomi. Bob was first and foremost a teacher. He taught and administered in universities for over fifty years, where his tireless work ethic and unfailing belief in equality and fairness earned him trust and respect from students and colleagues alike, enriching thousands of lives. He was a wonderful father and mentor to his children and grandchildren, sharing his humble wisdom and his love of nature, literature and social justice with them continually. His story-telling abilities were enthralling. May he find his rest in the afterlife, and a peaceful meadow there to fly kites in. Those who are comfortable commemorating Bob’s life in the Christian tradition are welcome to join the family at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina, at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 28. All are welcome to join us for a reception, refreshments and an informal time of sharing memories at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an appropriate charity such as the Regina Sexual Assault Centre, 1830 MacKay Street, Regina SK S4N 6R4, the Regina Food Bank, 445 Winnipeg Street, Regina SK S4R 8P2 or Oxfam Canada, 39 McArthur Avenue, Ottawa ON K1L 8L7.
