Obituary of George Rentas

GEORGE RENTAS It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic death of our father, husband, brother and good friend, George Rentas, of Regina, SK who suddenly passed away on Tuesday, June10, 2014, at 66 years of age. He was born in Argos, Greece on June 28, 1947 to the late Kristos Rentas of Argos and Zoie Konithas of Asini, Greece. George was predeceased by his sister Vicki Petroulias of Regina, SK. He served in the Greek army for a few years, and then in 1969, immigrated to Canada where George found his love and passion in the culinary arts. His first job was at the very well-known Paddock Restaurant. George then married Eva Mavouryani three years later on August 20, 1972. His culinary talents led him to become an entrepreneur and he established numerous successful businesses within Saskatchewan in the restaurant industry. This became his calling. George lit up a room with his gregarious personality and wonderful cooking and forged friendships with all walks of life. Many beautiful friends and fond memories were cultivated in his restaurants. He retired in 2012. George was a beloved member of the Greek community and enjoyed spending time with his fellow members. You would always see George at the local coffee spot like clockwork with his group of “coffee buddies” talking about the latest scores or who was getting married. He spent his retired days in both Greece and Canada visiting friends and family, sharing his love of life. George loved telling stories and was an avid hockey and soccer fan, who would be glued to the television especially during the playoffs. George’s love of cooking was something that he cherished and his greatest enjoyment was preparing and participating in large family dinners and sharing his many culinary talents and recipes with loved ones. He was a great man and will be dearly missed by all. George is survived by his wife Eva Rentas; daughters, Zoie and Christina (Steve Bauer); sister Sofia (Nick Lygouratis); and brother Gus Rentas (Christine). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will also be held at the church on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev.
